今天维诺教育和大家分享下，over和under这两个前缀，用好这两个前缀，让你的词汇量倍增！

over- 和 under-

over-的意思是too much， 过分，过多。

under-的意思是not enough,不足够，不够多。

中国人讲究中庸之道，凡事恰到好处最好。

所以大家记住over-和under-这两个前缀，都有否定含义。

overestimatev. 高估

underestimatev.低估

overratedadj. 评价过高的

underratedadj.评价过低的

overemphasizev.过分强调

underemphasizev.强调不够

overstimulationn.过度刺激

over-connected lifestyleadj.过度连接的生活方式（指的是资讯过多，社交媒体过多）

但是也有些特例，over-和under-会翻译成其它意思。

比如：有一个雅思阅读常考的词，叫overlook，但是这里over-不能翻译成too much。可以翻译成“越过”，看的时候把它越过了，就是完全没看到，忽视了，同义词有ignore和neglect。

再比如underline，这里的under就是“在下面”的意思。在一个词下面画线，引申为强调。同义词还有underscore。

这是一道配对题，需要利用题干里面的prepare到原文中找到对应的考点句，再从句子里面读出动物准备迁徙的时候会做什么，然后在A -G的选项中寻找同义替换的句子。

原文的考点句不难找：

They involve special behaviours concerning preparation (such as overfeeding) and arrival.

我们在这里看到括号里面就是动物迁徙的准备期会做的行为：overfeeding。但是这个词是个合成词，词汇表里面可不会有的。别慌，只要根据咱们讲过的over- = too much，feed = eat，那么这个词的意思就是 eat too much。在A-G的选项里面一看，就是C嘛，eat more than they need for immediate purposes.

再出一个例子，这个更厉害了，同时考了over-和under-两个前缀。

注意原文中用到了underestimate，但是前面又说cannot afford to，为什么一个否定词前面还要加否定词呢。这就是学术英语中常用的一种强调方式。如果我们直接说film sound is very important，显得非常苍白无力。但是我们说We really cannot afford to underestimate the importance of film sound.我们真的不能忽视电影声音的重要性啊！是不是显得高大上了很多。在雅思作文里面用上这么一句：立刻从5分句子，直接晋升为7分好句了。

所以这道题选B。wrong to overlook the contribution of sound。忽视电影声音的贡献是错误的，其实就是刚才咱们的7分好句的同义替换句。两句话一个用到了over-，一个用到了under，这并不是巧合，因为他们经常就是成对出现的。

拓展一下

在最地道的英文外刊中体会一下这两个前缀连用的强大修辞威力吧。英国的一位编辑评价首相Boris Johnson的时候用到了这两个前缀，真是太形象了，评价约翰逊这样的争议人物不能更贴切了。

他是我所遇见的最被高估同时也是最被低估的政治家，很多人讥讽他玩世不恭，殊不知已被他玩弄于股掌之中。
