标题: 请问debate什么时候可数？什么时候不可数？
请问debate什么时候可数？什么时候不可数？请尽量详细说明，最好举栗子

《100个句子记完7000个雅思单词》的第一句：
There is considerable debate over how we should react if we detect a signal from an alien civilisation.
这句里的debate是不可数名词。《牛津词典》里虽然注明了debate可以是可数，也可以是不可数，但举得例子都是可数的。

请教，debate什么时候不可数？为什么上句中的debate不可数？用There is a considerable debate over ... 可以吗？

debate用作名词可指在公共集会或议会中进行的正式“辩论，讨论"，也可指一般性的
“辩论，讨论"。

首先说句题外话：《100个句子记完7000个雅思单词》这份资料我下载过，但用《全文词典》分析了一下，发现这里面真正属于雅思的词汇好像只有一千多个，就放弃了。
其次，就我的理解，那种泛泛的讨论，无法计算场次的不可数，如：
There has been widespread public debate over the introduction of genetically modified food.
公众已对引入转基因食品进行了广泛的讨论。
There was much lively debate about whether women should spend more time in the home.
就妇女是否应该花更多时间待在家里这个话题有许多热烈的争论。
反之则为可数。
