The line graph illustrates the percentage of the population aged 65 and over from 1940 to 2040 in Japan,Sweden and USA respectively.
In Japan, the proportion of people aged 65 or older was 5% in 1940,with a slightly decline from 1940 to 2000 , then returning to 5% around 2012.As predicted ,the percentage will double in decade increasing to 10%, and in the subsequent decade ,namely till 2040,the proportion will surge to 25% which is 5 times as high as it in 1940.
As to the percentages in Sweden and USA, it raised steadily between 1940 and 1980 . Afterwards a evident difference emerged. In Sweden,the proportion experienced a sligtly decrease then bouncing to 20% in about 2015 .While the figure in USA just showed a small fluctuation around 15% from 1980 to 2012 and as the anticipation it will keep this trend till 2020. In the subsequent decade (to 2040)the proportions in Sweden and USA are both expected to get a modest increase which is somewhat below it in Japan.
In conclusion, the graph shows a general tendency of increase in the proportion of people aged 65 and over among Japan, Sweden and USA.
